As early as 1925 the talented architect student was awarded an impressive silver medal for the Paris Chair, which was his very first piece of furniture at the world exhibition in Paris. On that trip, he was struck by the pioneering aesthetic of Le Corbusier’s L’Esprit Nouveau pavillon. He also became acquainted with the rationalist architecture of Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius. Their work influenced his early designs including his graduation project, an art gallery, which won him a gold medal.

Paris

The Paris lounge chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1929 for a competition published by The Basket Makers Association. When he later the same year exhibited with the famous “House of the Future”, the chair was displayed as a part of the interior design.

Until World War II, the Paris lounge chair was produced by Robert W. The chair is known both as Fremtidens Stol (The Chair of the Future), Skovsneglen (The Forest Snail) and the Paris Chair.

St. Catherine

St Catherine is an exclusive teak bench designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1935. The bench was designed for wholesaler Helge Wandel’s villa, and when Arne Jacobsen in the late 1950s got his first major project abroad, designing St Catherine College in Oxford, the teak bench was included in the plan for the associated college park.

Charlottenborg

The Charlottenborg lounge chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1936. He showcased it for the first time at the Charlottenborg spring exhibition in 1937 and since then named after the castle. The chair was originally named A.J 237 and was part of a series of original rattan chairs.

The Charlottenborg lounge chair was one of Arne Jacobsen’s own favorite lounge chairs and was a part of the interior design in his famous vacation home called ‘Knarken’ which was built in 1937.

Charlottenborg Sofa & Table

In 1937, Arne Jacobsen extended the Charlottenborg series and managed to create the perfect lounge set that includes both a Charlottenborg coffee table and a Charlottenborg 2-seater sofa.
