By Arne Jacobsen. Designed in 1925.

Arne Jacobsen won a silver medal for his first furniture design, a chair made from rattan, simply called "The Paris Chair." Sika Design is re-launching this sculptural rattan chair, designed by one of the most famous Danish architects.

Arne Jacobsen

As a little boy, Arne Jacobsen dreamed of being a professional painter. His career trajectory took a slight change of course when he enrolled in the Architecture School at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Fortuitous indeed, as Jacobsen is known as the “the greatest Danish architect” ever. In 1925, Jacobsen, still a student, won a silver medal for his first furniture design in the Paris Art Deco Fair. The piece was a seemingly simple rattan chair named “The Paris Chair”. The design still lives on today and is regarded as one of his most iconic pieces. Jacobsen’s style was simple but effective, essential yet distinctive. Even though he strongly despised the word “designer” and never used the word to describe himself, the world remembers him as one of the best there ever was.
